The Right Theology | April 2021 Monthly Newsletter
Written by Ps. Nicholas Hung | Senior Pastor of Antioch Gospel Church
Greetings and blessings for the month ahead. As we celebrate Easter, and the death and resurrection of our Lord, may His goodness fill you more and more as His knowledge abounds in your soul.
Peter wrote, exhorting all believers to continually move forward, “But grow in the grace andknowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ …” (2 Peter 3:18 NKJV)
Paul said it like this: “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV)
Both Peter and Paul were alluding to something called theology.
The word, ‘theology,’ definitely evokes a wide range of differing thoughts amongst Christians. Some lean in, interested and intrigued to know what is coming next. Others are immediately turned off, assuming a deep, difficult to understand, doctrinal exposition is about to take place.
In its simplest form, theology is a word that clearly connects God (the Greek word theos means God) and the word (logos). So theology is simply talking and thinking about God. Every Christian has a theology of some sort, whether correct or incorrect, trained or untrained as whether we are educated or not, every Christian talks about God. So, as a matter of fact, in some way or another every Christian is a theologian.
Theology is important.
Since we must worship in spirit and in truth, we cannot truly worship without having the right theology. Effective prayer is birthed out of a place of right theology. Breakthrough and blessing flows from the right theology. Long term life change, a spirit of faithfulness, a heart of giving and so many other Christian characteristics all result from accurately rooted biblical theology.
So, with that in mind, one important question that every one of God’s children ought to be continually asking themselves is, how am I going to develop a better theology?
Developing The Right Theology (2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV)
1. Right theology is gained by correctly interpreting the word of God. Pray for God’s grace to help you to accurately understand His word.
2. It takes diligence to discover the right theology. Be prepared to read resources, listen, watch and learn from other mature believers. It’s going to take effort.
3. Right theology empowers right living. We do not need to be ashamed. If your theology is not transforming your life towards Godly living, perhaps it’s time to rethink your theology!
4. Right theology is practical and applied. We don’t need to do anything to gain God’s approval – he already paid for that on the cross. But we must to do our part to present ourselves before Him approved by God, and that is the result of applying the right theology.
At Antioch Gospel Church, we’re committed to delivering the message of the gospel from a foundation of biblical theology. But we’re also well aware that no believer can receive every important piece of information they need to just by turning up to church and hearing what’s shared from the church platform. That’s why we strongly encourage you to take Peter and Paul’s words to heart and to involve yourself in the process of developing a strong biblical knowledge. Establish strong habits of Bible devotion and study; proactively pursue the knowledge of God; get involved in Antioch Bible School … do whatever it takes to continually grow in the knowledge of God and establish right theology in your heart and mind. And don’t ever stop … this is a lifelong journey!
God bless you church. May His grace and favour be with you always,
