Following Jesus - The Great Adventure | February 2022 Monthly Newsletter

Written by Ps. Nicholas Hung | Senior Pastor of Antioch Gospel Church

Life is an adventure … a great adventure …

By default the adventure of life leads us to places and experiences that we could never ever imagine or comprehend from the outset, no matter how hard we might care to try – life can be an unpredictable adventure!

At times the adventure of life is fun; at other times it’s gruelling, painful and tiring. At times we just can’t get enough of the adventure – sometimes we wish it would all be a little smoother than what it actually is. Life is a full on adventure that carries us through seasons, through challenges, from one place to another on a roller coaster ride of twists and turns.

No matter how we look at it, our lives will be an adventure – so why not make sure that it isn’t just any ordinary adventure – but that our lives are THE Great Adventure; the greatest adventure of all; the adventure of living our lives as disciples of Jesus – following Him into the great unknown?

He said, “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV)

That sounds like a wide-open invitation to you and I to enter into the great adventure with Him!

Jesus said, “I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” (John 10:10 MSG)

That also sounds like an adventure invitation to me!

The Bible records many similar invitations. Our Creator is literally bending over backwards in His desire to see each and every one of His children living the best life ever! I can tell you that there’s no more exciting adventure than the adventure of living life with Jesus. Years ago I made the decision to follow Jesus on the great adventure with Him, and He never disappoints. Every Christian who has ever discovered the deep joy of living for Jesus has some kind of pivot moment – a realisation moment that living for Jesus would lead them into the best kind of life; a moment where they found or developed a genuine heart and joy for following Jesus.

And God never lets us down.

For our current church theme I wrote a song, titled The Great Adventure. It’s a catchy tropical jingle about the joyful life that I, and millions of others, have discovered simply by saying, “Yes,” to Jesus and then walking our everyday lives out with Him. The chorus says: “Lord, You and me – we’re living out the great adventure! Together we are climbing lofty mountains and we sail the seven seas. Living like you promised me – exceedingly abundantly; experiencing life beyond my wildest dreams. Lord You and me – on a great adventure!”

I definitely encourage you to take a moment to listen to The Great Adventure and watch the Creative Trio music video. I believe it’ll be a real encouragement for you.

The difference between living ‘the adventure’ and living ‘the GREAT adventure’ is that we let God write our story His way instead of trying to write our own life story. God is an expert at leading us, directing us and taking us to places where we could never go on our own. He’s the absolute best tour guide. He’s the Adventure King! He’s the One who knows exactly where, when and how to get us to the best sunrises, sunsets and postcard-worthy scenes. He’s the One Who knows exactly who to pair us up with to enjoy the journey the most. Getting on His road-map for our lives is the greatest choice we could ever make.

What will your ‘lofty mountains’ and ‘seven seas’ be? None of us can perfectly predict where our adventure will take us – but we do know that when we’ve got the best Navigator behind the wheel our adventure will take us to places beyond our wildest dreams or imaginations. Don’t miss out on all that’s happening at church this season as we continue on this great adventure together.
